The ‘Gandhara Carapace’ table is a functional work of art merging contemporary design and 'pietra dura', a centuries-old art also known as stone inlay, which consists in creating mosaics in gems and hard stones and reached its acme in 16th century Florence. The table features minimal lines entirely covered with an inlay of fine stones (amazonite, onyx) and marble. The polygonal ‘Carapace’ pattern that repeats and unfolds over the entire surface of the table evokes both geometric rigor and the exoskeleton of an animal. 

A true jewel for the home, this table materializes the encounter between two women: Nada Debs, one of the most renowned designers in the Near and Middle East, and Meher Asad, artistic director of the Lél collective, based in Pakistan. Together, they revamped Nada Debs' ‘Carapace’ table in an alchemy of colors, symbolic of their two worlds. Nada Debs is dedicated to revisiting ancient fine crafts and perpetuating them with contemporary design, and this collaboration is a testament to the fine craft narrative that connects communities and cultures. 

Nada Debs grew up in Japan in a Lebanese family. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States. Her multicultural approach has made her one of the most renowned designers in the Near and Middle East. "I was inspired by the city of Peshawar, its bright colors, its intricate patterns, and its varied architectural features", Nada Debs says of her visit of Peshawar, the oldest city in Pakistan and one of the most ancient in South Asia. "Through this collaboration, we would like to draw the world’s attention to Peshawar’s rich history and the fine craftsmanship that has existed here for centuries. Encouraging new perspectives of the city, abroad as well as locally”, Meher Asad, the Studio Lél artistic director, explains.

"Palmyre" Palm Wood Sideboard, Silvered Bronze and Mirrors by Hubert Le Gall

An important pair of mid 18th Century Chippendale period mahogany Library Armchairs, having unusual carved and scrolled cartouche-shaped backs, with scroll moulded set-back arms. The Chairs having stuffover seats with gadrooned borders, supported on blind fret carved cabriole legs with scrolled toes.

Similar examples of our Library Armchairs can be found in the third edition of Thomas Chippendale book Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Director (1762). The pair resembles the right chair design in Plate XXI, catalogued by Chippendale as “French Chairs”. He described in his book that this model “may be executed to advantage, some of them are intended to be open below at the back: which makes them very light without having a bad effect.’ His design illustrates his familiarity with the fashionable French Rococo style represented by the curvilinear form of the chair and scrolled feet. The carved surface decoration on our Chairs is much less elaborate than that on the published design and is more reminiscent of the work of Robert Manwaring, whose Cabinet and Chair-Maker's Real Friend and Companion, was published in 1765. A comparable chair, formerly in a private collection in Herfordshire, probably William Plumer from Gilston Park, is currently in the V&A collection.

'Catcher of the Skies' is a unique artwork by the American and Swiss artists, Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. 

Combining Scandinavian and Venetian glass making techniques, their sculptural boat centerpieces are made from smaller blown and cut glass components nestled (in sand) inside a metallic hull.

'We are migratory creatures; the history of our species is about journeys, departures, leaving and arriving, starting over. And none more so than ourselves. Our new work is both culturally and personally inclined. An autobiographical touch in civilizational reflection. Wherever man goes he builds, laying down cultural lines which gradually transform into relics and artefacts over time's inevitable march. Urban landscapes and complex designs grow and expand, deteriorate and decay. And on again we move, taking the memories of our exploits with us to use in the next story.' B&G

Constructed from amaranth and ormolu-mounted throughout, the oval table supported on four bronze 'toursade' feet conjoined with an incurved and galleried undertier, the fluted legs supporting a Calacatta marble platform, the frieze below dressed with four Wedgewood jasperware plaques and housing a lockable drawer. WE HAVE BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SOURCE SOME OF THE FINEST ALABASTER LIGHTS OVER THE YEARS AND THIS EXAMPLE IS ONE OF THE BEST.

BEAUTIFULLY COLOURED ALABASTER BOWL WHICH HAS A DIAMETER OF 28 INCHES.  HAND CARVED WITH FLOWERS SUCH AS ROSES AROUND THE EDGE.  STONE HAS CORAL, WHITES AND CREAMS ALONG WITH IT'S NATURAL GREY VEINING.  SUPPORTED BY 5 ROPES, WHICH ARE ATTACHED TO THE BOWL BY BRONZED ARMS.  BELL SHAPED CEILING ROSE IN THE SAME METAL.

LIGHT IS FITTED WITH 5 BULB HOLDER'S, IT IS STILL WIRED BUT UNTESTED.  WE RECOMMEND THAT THE ELECTRICS ARE PROFESSIONALLY TESTED AND INSTALLED.

LARGE CARVED ALABASTER ART DECO PENDANT LIGHT

MUGWORT DREAM is a cast concrete cabinet, with plant relief imprints, and fish and shell motifs. A surreal dreamy setting of imagery where the 'mugwort herb' is used in the cast, underwater or overground?? Mugwort has seen continuous use in many cultures throughout the world as a medicinal, spiritual, and culinary ingredient since at least the Iron Age. The piece is from a 2021 collection of unique cast concrete cabinets and furniture by the artist Stefan Buxbaum that evoke a surprising sensation in contrast to the softness and sensibility of nature and plant specimens cast onto them.
The cupboards of Stefan Buxbaum - a casting and concrete expert - are technical feats: the corpus is cast in one piece, in a lightweight technique. For his emblematic plant models, the artist applies his chosen specimens and petrifies those paragons of beauty as permanent reliefs onto the surfaces. Suitable for outdoors.

BIOGRAPHY:
Felix Mas studied art at the San Jorge Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona. An academic traditionalist, his paint surfaces are highly finished and smooth, and his works displaying the luminous beauty and elegance of the female form are most sought after. His works are said to have "sensual elegance." 

Mas's work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, Venezuela, and Spain, including Artexpo 2000, Barcelona. 

The present work, 'LUZ,' has strong symbolist qualities with elements of magical realism, with an abundance of Oriental influences. Though the subject matter is gentle, the present work has a commanding and powerful presence.
