An American realist painter who favored industrial, landscape and marine subjects and explored the effects of sunlight, particularly on water. His work depicts his home place of York, Pennsylvania but he traveled widely to paint and his travels to South America,Haiti and the Bahamas and later, his home in Maine. Here he has captured an unmoored buoy washed up on a bleak shore in a loose, impressionistic style. Original frame. Signed lower left: Stephen Etnier ‘52.
