When Themes & Variations first opened its doors in 1984 the London design scene as we know it today was in its infancy. The gallery has since been recognised as a leading specialist in post-war and contemporary design, with an evolving selection of works reflecting a passionate commitment to unexpected and exceptional vintage and contemporary furniture, lighting, glass and ceramics.

‘Maverick sophistication’ describes Themes & Variations’ taste and approach to curating, from the rise of Italian post-war design through the Scandinavian and French aesthetics of the 1960s and 1970s and on to the concepts of 1980s British ‘Creative Salvage’. The gallery also collaborates with Studio Fornasetti and selected contemporary artists and designers on exclusive, unique or limited edition works.
