The Design Gallery was established in 2002 to specialise in progressive design movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. From Gothic Revival to the Aesthetic Movement, the Arts and Crafts Movement to Art Nouveau and Art Deco, it offers a wide range of every-changing stock in fine condition. John, who was the honorary treasurer of the Decorative Arts Society for 8 years, and Chrissie Masters met while studying decorative arts at Sotheby’s Institute and ran a gallery in Westerham, Kent UK for 18 years. They are now based at in three showrooms at the newly-opened Pantiles Arcade in Tunbridge Wells and a 3,000 sq.ft. showroom and warehouse near Edenbridge, Kent. From scarce furniture and metalware by Liberty, Heal’s and Archibald Knox; glass by Rene Lalique, Daum and Galle; through to top-level British Art Deco made by manufacturers such as Epstein, Maurice Adams and Hille – every piece is meticulously researched and celebrated.
